With a host of new acts announced for some of the top European festivals of 2013, here’s a run-through of what not to miss this summer…

Bilbao BBK Live (11-13 July) has added more names to its line-up for 2013, with Fatboy Slim, The Hives, and Biffy Clyro all confirmed. These new acts will join the already-announced headliners Depeche Mode, Kings of Leon and Green Day.

This will be Bilbao’s eighth year, and festival organisers are expecting the largest turnout yet. With numbers increasing year on year; by 2011 the audience size had doubled and 2012 saw even larger numbers attending.

FIB (18–21 July) has given us a preview of what to expect from the festival this year, announcing acts such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Hurts, Rizzle Kicks and more. They will be joining previously announced headliners; the Killers, Queens of the Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys. This will be the second time Arctic Monkeys have headlined FIB, playing in 2011, while last year’s line-up included Bob Dylan, The Stone Roses and David Guetta.

Spain’s biggest and best festival has recently been secured after fears over whether it would go ahead or not this year. Established in 1994, Benicassim has secured a large and loyal following, and offers festivalgoers the opportunity to experience the best in live rock and electronica.

Sziget (5-12 August) has also announced new acts; Hadouken!, Boys Noize and Nicky Romero, to name a few, who will be joining headliners Blur in Hungary.

Sziget, one of Europe’s largest festivals, takes place in Budapest and this year will be the festival’s 21st edition. Continually receiving great reviews from critics and festivalgoers alike, Sziget attracted the attention of Michael Eavis who visited the festival during Glastonbury’s year off and stated “It's much cleaner than we are at home and it's a fantastic event. We've been running Glastonbury for 42 years and I'm not used to coming second.”

Sziget is a modern European festival, with an eclectic musical mix, an engaging carnival atmosphere and the potential for a great 2013 line-up.

Finally, Outlook (29 Aug-2 Sept) has announced its line-up for 2013, returning with what they describe as “an incredible line-up featuring some of the world’s best live acts and DJs”. With artists including Mr Scruff, Shy FX and Goldie amongst a plethora of other top names we can’t really disagree with them.

Now in its 6th year, Outlook Festival is Europe's leading festival dedicated to bass music and sound system culture, and won ‘Best Overseas Festival’ at the UK Festival Awards in 2011.
